Theresa walked outside to sit in the swing to read her Sunday paper with Brutus in tow. This being one of her very favorite things to do, she trifled through the headline columns, perused the opinions and cultural affairs and then slightly giggled at some of the silly cartoons. By the time she had noticed her surroundings the sun had reached high into the sky noting that it was close to Noon.
Theresa decided to go into town and do some grocery shopping she had been putting off. She had promised the next door neighbor's little girl that she would make some brownies and a cake for her junior high school's upcoming bake sale and needed to buy the ingredients.
As she drove the short distance to the grocery plaza, Theresa couldn't stop thinking about the recent events that had taken place with her family. She had 2 sisters and 1 brother and since their Mother had died 6 years ago they had drifted further and further apart. Theresa had moved 4 hours away after college almost 15 years prior to her dream job of an apprenticeship with a small but affluent publishing company.
Ultimately Theresa's plan had been to write a novel - maybe two, travel the world promoting it and meet the man of her dreams in one of the foreign countries she had visited. They would get married, have a couple of beautiful brilliant children and retire well into their 80's living the lives of leisurely junkers, watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up...
Theresa shook herself out of the reminiscing, pulled into the local market and started going down the grocery isles with her push-along buggy.
As she immersed herself into the task at hand, she was oblivious to her surroundings. She paid little attention to the two teenagers dressed in Gothic-style clothes walking by, she only remotely heard the toddler having a hissy-fit over the higher priced cereal his mother refused to buy him because it had a toy included in the box.
Nor did Theresa see the handsome gentleman looking her way as she casually searched for her brand of peanut butter on the shelf.
