The next morning, Jordan had to rush to get to his monthly board meeting. It was being held in one of the conference rooms of a nearby hotel. Today he would be making a presentation to the board members and had all of his notes on index cards. He grabbed the cards off of the computer desk, shuffled them into order and stuffed them into his briefcase. Just half an hour previously, Jordan had been getting his sons and wife off to school; the boys as students and she as teacher, with packed lunches and hugs all around.
Now as he settled into his SUV for the ride over to the hotel, Jordan thought about his life and how focused he had been on his family for the last few years. He handled all matters where they were concerned right down to the peanut butter sandwiches he had packed that morning for their lunches. He was confident in the fact that his wife and children were taken care of. He had made sure throughout his marriage that his family would never see the strains and sacrifices he had went through in order to make sure they were happy and secure and had everything they needed and wanted in their life.
Lately Jordan himself had been thinking of the sacrifices and how hard he had worked over the last years. He couldn't help but feel that it had all been for the family. Call it selfish, but it seemed that nothing Jordan had accomplished during his adult life could be said to belong just to him. His ideas of making his magazine into more than just a local rag were now a far away dream. He was 45 years old now and Jordan knew he just didn't have what it took anymore to be in the rat race and try to compete with the likes of much more famous periodicals.
Casey rolled over in the luxurious king-sized bed squinting at the alarm clock on the bedside table of her hotel room. "Ahh crap, It's 8:15 already?" Yawning, she got to her feet and grabbed her robe and went into the shower.
After blow drying her hair and dabbing on some eye shadow and mascara, Casey hurried down to the lobby of the hotel scanning her iteniary listing as she walked, trying to pinpoint in which direction she needed to go in order to get to the first of her meetings for the day.
Her main goal during the week of the seminar was to show how data gathered from Satellite Photography was used. The town Casey worked in had a population of over 350,000 people. The photos used show the coverage of growth in the area and data is documented accordingly for public record. Her job at hand was to implement the same type system here on the coast that covered three surrounding counties of a few hundred thousand people.
As Casey was setting up her laptop which would broadcast on a projection screen, her co-worker walked over and began a conversation.
"Hey girl, what'd you end up doing on your free afternoon yesterday?"
Casey looked up at the woman and smiled. "Hey there!" "Oh, I didn't do much, walked around a bit, mostly hung out by the pool, ate dinner in my room and then went to bed early." Casey replied.
"Well, we tried to find you around 7:30, a few of us went into the club across the street and had a few drinks."
"You should have been there, you would have died laughing at some of us trying to Shag dance" said the girl.
"Oooh there's the warden, I'll catch ya later" she said, and quickly walked to her assigned seat.
Casey looked over to where her work mate had pointed and saw her boss that had accompanied them on the trip. In her opinion Casey didn't see her as a warden at all and though her relationship with the Supervisor wasn't much to speak of other than occasional direction and guidance, Casey had great respect for her. She had never mentioned it but she secretly had high hopes that in the future after the supervisor had retired that she might be asked to fill in for that position of leadership.
The morning went by slowly and at noon, everyone shuffled out of the conference room to grab lunch.
