never gonna happen 2...

The man watched the woman as she left the deli, saddened that he hadn't been able to at least have a brief conversation with her. He turned back towards the counter and continued with his lunch.

A voice suddenly rang out,

"Jordan Hunter?"

"Is that you?"

"Well I'll be dagum, It is you!"

The man whom the voice belonged to was situated a few seats down the counter row. He was wearing a broad smile and looked anxiously at Jordan. Jordan faced him and waved to him.

"How goes it Bill?"

He and Jordan had met during an annual event held in the neighboring town a few years prior and had remained good friends since.

Bill was not a big man in stature, well under 6 feet tall and maybe 170 pounds. Bill's face beamed brightly as he spoke to Jordan and as they bantered back and forth with idle chit-chat, it was apparent that Bill was well known and liked by most of the patrons in the restaurant who uttered their greetings as they walked by him.

When Bill finally walked by and patted Jordan on his back and announced his goodbyes, Jordan went back to chugging his Pepsi and thinking about the woman from earlier. He had brought in some papers from his office with him while he had lunch but thoughts of the woman kept him from being able to concentrate.

"Damnit, What is the deal?" he cursed to himself as he scratched out another typo he had written down on the legal pad.

"Ahh, to hell with it", he said.

Jordan gathered up his papers and put them back into his briefcase. He couldn't understand why a woman he didn't even know anything about was having such an affect on him. It isn't like he didn't deal with women a lot in his job as owner and editor of a local music magazine. He had published countless articles of current celebrities.

Some of the women he had interviewed were drop-dead gorgeous women, and yet this one woman he had saw earlier, her looks nothing remarkable to speak of, was still on his mind and he couldn't help but wonder if she'd even bothered glancing at the business card he had placed into her hand before she had left.

Jordan didn't even know why he had done something so out of character but as he gathered up his belongings and exited out to his car, thoughts of the woman finally dissipated and he began to think about the matter at hand of driving home to his wife of 19 years and his three sons who were probably just getting in from school about now.

Jordan knew that if he hurried, he'd have just enough time to spend a few hours with the boys before he had to leave for dinner with a client that he was trying to snag for an interview in his next issue of

"Coastline Soul".
